“Whether I print or paint in black and white or color, I want to present what at first seems like straightforward images,
but if you look closer you’ll find lines and layers, shapes and shades, all design within design”. -Angela Gaffney-Smith
Angela Gaffney-Smith is a watercolor painter and printmaker based in Saugerties, New York.
Born in Birmingham, England, she moved with her family to the United States from Ontario, Canada.
Today, Angela's studio is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains.
Education and experience
Angela Gaffney-Smith received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Gaffney-Smith continues taking advanced workshops with nationally recognized artists at the
Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock, New York, and Springmaid Watermedia in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Inspiration
Angela's other interests include her woodland garden, stonework from the quarry on the property, and sewing;
especially with tulle. There is a connection with the light, airy quality of tulle and watercolor versus the solid,
direct line of printmaking and bluestone.
Classes
Angela Gaffney-Smith offers a relaxed, open watercolor class for all levels in Saugerties plus a 6 week instruction
for beginners at her studio. She has also been an art instructor for developmentally challenged adults made possible
through grants from the New York State Council of the Arts. |
